Second Harvest Names Perdue Protein Donor of the Year
CHICAGO -- America's Second Harvest based here presented Perdue Farms with its 2005 Hunger's Hope Protein Donor of the Year award, which recognizes commitment to donate a minimum of 1 million pounds of poultry each year to the nation's food bank network.
In 2005, Perdue far exceeded that goal by donating more than 1.8 million pounds to help feed America's hungry from 14 processing plants and distribution centers that, all told, enabled food banks in 21 states to provide highly-sought protein to food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and other community programs.
A significant supporter of the Maryland Food Bank since the bank's founding more than 25 years ago, Perdue has partnered with America's Second Harvest since 2000.
To offset transportation and storage challenges, Perdue donated two refrigerated trailers to the Salisbury Branch of the Maryland Food Bank in 2005. During the devastating 2005 hurricane season, Perdue pledged an additional 250,000 pounds of product to America's Second Harvest to aid the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
