Sedano’s Bows New Flagship Store
Sedano’s Supermarkets has opened a new flagship store — the grocer’s 31’st location — in the Westchester area of Miami. To celebrate the Dec. 2 opening, Hialeah, Fla.-based Sedano’s is offering shoppers such exclusive special offers as 10 plantains for 99 cents and BOGO deals on everyday items, including a gallon of milk.
After a blessing by a priest, Sedano's execs took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 40,000-square-foot store. Additionally, local radio stations WQBA, WACC and WSUA transmitted live from the location; free pizza was distributed for the first three hours of the opening; Presidente (beer) girls handed out premiums to customers thoughout the store; Budweiser held a two-hour promotion outside, giving out Sedano's Bud branded items; and there was an A&W Float giveaway.
Among the store events scheduled on Dec. 6 and Dec. 13 marking the location’s debut are a 32-person domino tournament sponsored by Budweiser (along with a traditional Hispanic roasted pig for 300 people), in-store cooking demonstrations by IMUSA, a Miami Heat Xtreme team appearance, live music entertainment and in-store samplings.
Customers also have the opportunity to win such items as Sedano’s gift cards, a signed guitar by Mexican pop star and composer Marco Antonio Solis, tickets to an entire suite for a Miami Heat game, domino tables and an outdoor fire pit.
Unique to the new location is a brand-new fresh-made pizza area in the cafeteria, where a pizza maker will always be on staff preparing made-to-order pies in a decorative pizza oven, a Sedano's spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer.
The largest independently owned, Hispanic supermarket chain in the United States, Sedano’s operates 30 other locations in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach counties, and employs 2,600 associates.
