Shaw's, Patriots Team to Feed Kids after School
WEST BRIDGEWATER, MASS. -- Shaw's Supermarkets here, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, and the Greater Boston Food Bank this week kicked off a joint fundraising campaign to support a program offer free hot meals for children after school.
The program, called Kids Cafe, utilizes local food banks throughout New England, to feed kids in such venues as Boys & Girls Clubs.
To support the program, Shaw's and Star Market customers can buy paper footballs in different colors through Oct. 9: A brown football costing $1.33 will feed a child dinner for one night, while a gold football costing $6.65 will feed a child dinner for a whole week. The goal is to raise a total of $300,000.
Last year Supervalu-owned Shaw's became the official supermarket sponsor of the Patriots, and the two entities have collaborated on sweepstakes and other special promotions.
The most expansive child-feeding program in the United States, Kids Cafe operates at more than 1,600 established locations.
