Sobeys Store Debuts Canada’s 1st Nutella Café

Canada's inaugural Nutella Café has opened at Sobeys Inc.'s newly renovated Spadina Sobeys Urban Fresh store in Toronto. Customers to the store-within-a-store can now purchase various pastries and artisan breads made with the iconic hazelnut spread, including bombe, aragosta, zeppole, pizelle and all-butter croissants and danishes, along with fresh made-to-order crêpes with Nutella, and premium hot beverages.

"At Sobeys, we aim to surprise and delight customers through extraordinary, unique and unparalleled experiences, and our Nutella Café does just that," noted Mary Dalimonte, SVP, merchandising and commercial programs at the Stellarton, Nova Scotia-based grocer.

As part of the grand-opening celebration, customers can sample Nutella Café products and post their impressions on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #NutellaxSobeys.

In addition to the Nutella Café, the renovated Spadina Sobeys Urban Fresh now features a fresh produce department carrying ready-to-eat cut fruit, vegetables and salads, and a wide selection of organic and local items; a meat department with Certified Humane beef, pork and chicken; Sterling Silver AAA Premium Beef; Ontario lamb; and a range of marinated, ready-to-cook proteins; and Sobeys' Kitchen, offering chef-inspired self-serve salad and hot-entrée bars, stone oven-baked pizza al taglio, and freshly made sushi and noodle dishes.

Other Nutella-branded retail concepts in the United States include the Nutella bars at Eataly’s New York and Chicago locations.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Empire Co. Ltd., Sobeys owns or franchises about 1,500 stores in all 10 Canadian provinces under retail banners that include Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, Thrifty Foods, and Lawton's Drug Stores as well as more than 350 retail fuel locations. Sobeys and its franchise affiliates employ more than 125,000 associates.
