Sorbara's Shop n' Save Deploys Multiple-Format Self-Checkouts
SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Sorbara's Shop n' Save, an independent grocery chain with five stores in the Pittsburgh area, last week deployed a new self-checkout system that includes a mix of both bagged and belted units to meet the needs of both food ingredient and convenience shoppers.
Each installation includes two belted self-checkout units, plus two five-bag U-Scan stations, from Plano, Texas-based technology vendor StoreNext. All self-checkout units are integrated with the retailer's ScanMaster point-of-sale (POS) software, also developed by StoreNext.
"Having a combination of bagged and belted self-checkouts made perfect sense for us," said Jim Sorbara, owner of Sorbara's. "It gives our customers a choice of using one type of self-checkout for large-volume orders, or another for the ability to get in and out quickly when they only need a few items. We can also have four self-checkout lanes open with just one cashier during high-traffic hours, enabling more employees to assist customers with their needs throughout the store."
StoreNext reseller Retalix Pittsburgh worked with Sorbara's to install the self-checkouts and integrate them with the ScanMaster systems, will also will handle Sorbara's ongoing support and service.
Sorbara's Shop n' Save stores are recognized for outstanding customer service and provide a wide variety of prepared and natural products. Stores range from 40,000 to 70,000 square feet.
