Stater Bros. Donates More Than $21K to USMC Reserve Toys for Tots
COLTON, Calif. - Regional independent grocery chain Stater Bros. last week presented a $21,600 check to representatives from the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program - a donation made possible by its private label program.
For the second year in a row, the retailer is the program's top cash donor. "Stater Bros. believes in giving back to the communities we serve," said Jack H. Brown, chairman and c.e.o. of Stater Bros. "We are very proud to help make the Christmas wishes of so many children come true this year."
Representatives from the USMC Inspector & Instructor Staff, based in Riverside, Calif. attended the check presentation ceremony at the Stater Bros. corporate offices December 7. Representing the Delta Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, these local Marines will use the donation to purchase thousands of toys that will be distributed to community-based organizations in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, and these organizations in turn will donate the toys to local children and families who are in need this holiday season.
The donation was made possible through a partnership between Stater Bros. and the manufacturers of Stater Bros. store brand products. For each private label item sold, a portion of the sale goes to the Toys for Tots Program.
The USMC Reserve Toys for Tots Program was developed in 1947 to spread Christmas cheer to children in need. The program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year and distributes these toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters - a message it hopes will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, and patriotic, citizens and community leaders.
Stater Bros. operates 162 Supermarkets, and employs 17,000 associates.
