Stew Leonard's to Celebrate Coffee in October

Stew Leonard's will be taking its customers to school for coffee all next month, with an educational and promotional program celebrating the beverage via specials, free tastings, a take-home brochure, and raffles.

Stew Leonard's is one of the few U.S. grocers that roasts its own coffee, using 350 tons of Arabica beans annually.

For the Celebration of Coffee campaign, the four-store chain’s coffee departments will offer free samples from a different coffee-growing region each weekend: Columbia for Oct. 3-5, Hawaii and Brazil  for Oct. 10-12, Africa (Oct. 17-19), and Indonesia (Oct. 24-26). The above-mentioned weekly raffles will offer a two-pound bag of the featured coffee that weekend as the prize.

The barista brochure, "Smell, Sip, and Savor Stew's Fresh Roasted Coffee," contains profiles of the plantations and estates from which Stew Leonard's coffee beans hail, a guide to the roasting process, and descriptions of Stew Leonard's signature blends, in addition to a glossary of coffee terms. The brochure is also available online at www.stewleonards.com.

"Whether you buy a cup of coffee or a pound of coffee beans at Stew's, it is a very unique experience, because the person who roasted those beans or prepared your coffee is also the person serving them to you," said Pierre Ulysse, a barista at Stew Leonard's Norwalk, Conn. store.

Stew Leonard's fresh-roasted coffee is also available online at www.StewsGifts.com or by calling (800) SAY-STEW. Blends include Colombian Supremo, 100% Kauai, Classic Hazelnut, Breakfast Blend, or Stew's Choice.

Norwalk-based Stew Leonard's operates stores in Norwalk, Danbury, and Newington, Conn. and Yonkers, NY.
