Still Squaring the Circle

Last year, Solo Cup Co. introduced Solo Squared, a first-of-its-kind Squared single-use cup. This year, the manufacturer has extended the shape to a set of Squared plates and bowls. According to Lake Forest, Ill.-based Solo, the new design taps into an emerging trend toward square shapes in fashion, permanent tableware and glassware, bringing modern tableware trends to the disposable category. Featuring a deep well to hold more food and reduce spills that cause mess, the plates come in 9-inch and 10-inch sizes retailing for a suggested $2.35 to 4.98, depending on count and size, while the 20-ounce bowls, which retail for a suggested $3.22 per package, offer tactile grips for safer handling, delivering greater perceived strength with an overall more secure hold.
