Super Saver Celebrates National Doughnut Day

National Doughnut Day is a big deal at Super Saver, and this Friday starting at 7 a.m., the first 200 customers at every location of the Nebraska-based supermarket chain will receive one free fresh-baked glazed doughnut.

Each store will also give away coupons for doughnuts. “Our bakers mix the batter and make the doughnuts fresh every day,” said Pat Raybould, president of B&R Stores. “National Doughnut Day is an opportunity to recognize their dedication to donuts and thank our loyal customers.”

National Donut Day was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army in Chicago. Held the first Friday of June each year, it began as a way to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

Lincoln, Neb.-based B&R Stores Inc. operates four store concepts – Russ’s Market, Super Saver, Save Best Foods and Grand Central Apple Market – in seven cities across Nebraska and Iowa.
