Supervalu Forms Logistics Solution Provider Unit
MINNEAPOLIS - Supervalu Inc. announced it has finalized its plan to establish a dedicated logistics solution provider organization to pursue growth opportunities within non-traditional logistics management services. As an important first step in this initiative, Supervalu has named Richard (Rick) Finkbeiner as the business unit's president.
"As part of our ongoing distribution business strategy, this organization will tap a fast-growing category within the logistics industry," said Mike Jackson, president and chief operating officer, Distribution. "As companies continue to drive inefficiencies from their operations, there is a growing trend to outsource supply chain activities. Rick will be responsible for matching our broad menu of services and products with customers' needs, allowing them to reap the benefits of Supervalu's technologies, sector expertise and scale.
"We plan to aggressively pursue these types of business opportunities, which could range from third-party facilities management to hybrid arrangements that span the entire length of the food and drug supply channel," added Jackson.
Finkbeiner most recently was senior vice president, Global Services, for CS Integrated, Frigoscandia Group. Prior to that he served as vice president, Logistics Marketing and Sales, for Versacold Corporation in Toronto and Vancouver.
