Supervalu Uploading FreshDirect CEO Michaelson to CMO Slot
After four years as the c.e.o. of online grocer FreshDirect, Steve Michaelson is decamping to Minneapolis to become the chief marketing officer of Supervalu Inc.
Michaelson was s.v.p./marketing and merchandising at the Long Island City-based Internet grocer. Before that, he was at Weis Markets, which he joined in 2002, and where he assumed responsibility for merchandising, marketing, and corporate brands.
Prior to his stint at Weis Market, Michaelson was s.v.p. of marketing for Wegmans from 1994 to 2001. At Wegmans, Michaelson handled marketing, advertising, and select merchandising; as well as a $50 million production facility and its 350 employees.
In the wake of Michaelson’s departure, Richard Braddock, FreshDirect’s chairman, will add the title of c.e.o. to his business card, according to press reports. “I chose to increase my involvement with the company because I love the business and I think it has great growth potential,” Braddock was quoted as saying. “Over the past years I’ve developed a deep respect for the FreshDirect team and am looking forward to helping unlock the potential of this company.”
Braddock joined FreshDirect’s board in 2003, and became its chairman a year later. He previously spent 20 years at Citibank, where he was president between 1990 and 1992.
