Tanimura & Antle Donates $10K to Salinas Salvation Army

Employees of Salinas, Calif.-based Tanimura & Antle have raised $10,000 for the Salinas Salvation Army Holiday Food and Toy Drive. This year’s monetary donation comes in addition to the company’s annual donation of fresh produce and the use of its refrigerated distribution center to provide 1000 families in the Salinas community with a brighter holiday.

Because the Salinas Salvation Army depends on support from local companies to meet the goals of its Holiday Food and Toy Drive, employees of Tanimura & Antle contributed out of their own pockets to ensure the program’s success. “We heard that last year there was a shortage of turkeys for the food baskets, so we wanted to contribute what we could this year, to make sure that didn’t happen again,” said Colin Horwitz of Tanimura & Antle, and organizer of the employee donation effort. “It was a great team effort by everyone.”

On Dec. 15, hundreds of families will receive their holiday packages, including blankets, $100 worth of groceries, and toys for an estimated 2,500 children.

“The produce donation from Tanimura & Antle puts a 'wow' factor into our Christmas food boxes making them the healthiest in the country,” said Major Kris Potter, who oversees the Salinas Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army distribution center located at Tanimura & Antle is without a doubt the best space possible in Salinas and for three weeks in December it is a beacon of hope to literally thousands of Salinas Valley families.”

As one of the largest independent lettuce growers in the United States, Tanimura & Antle farms more than 30,000 acres of farmland and ships a full line of produce products throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
