Target Moves Up Top 10 Retailers Ladder
CHICAGO -- Target Stores has surpassed Sears, Roebuck & Co. as the nation's fourth-largest retailer, according to a list released this week by the National Retail Federation's Stores magazine.
Wal-Mart Stores retained its No. 1 position, and widened the gap over its rivals with sales greater than its five biggest U.S. competitors combined.
Home Depot retained the No. 2 spot for the second year in a row, while Kroger remained at third. Sears fell to number five after recording a slim 0.9 percent increase in revenues. Costco Wholesale Corp. climbed two rungs to number six, while Albertsons was seventh, followed by Safeway, J.C. Penney Co., and Kmart Corp.
