Target Taps Another Amazon Vet

Looking to expedite online purchase deliveries, mass retailer Target Corp. has hired another former Amazon.com executive for its supply chain team.

Target tapped Preston Mosier to be its SVP of fulfillment operations. Mosier will take charge of the warehouses that send products directly to consumers, process improvement, customer experience and product management for the Minneapolis-based retailer. Mosier starts his new role on Aug. 14.

Mosier will report to Arthur Valdez, a 16-year Amazon veteran who joined Target this spring as chief supply chain and logistics officer, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. At the time, Amazon sued Valdez, charging that he violated the online seller’s noncompete clause. Both sides have reportedly settled the case, with terms remaining confidential, the Star Tribune reported.

Mosier worked at Liquidity Services, an online auction marketplace in Washington, D.C., for five years after leaving Seattle-based Amazon.

“A top priority for our guests is to get what they ordered quickly, accurately and without hassle,” said Valdez. “Target already has a strong operation to move product in bulk to stores, so bringing the online fulfillment function under a specialized leader will enhance our direct-to-guest operation. Preston’s experience using technology and data to deliver smaller packages directly to consumers will help us continue building capabilities that will put product in guests’ hands even faster.”

Last month, Target hired Ben Cook, an Apple executive, to be its SVP of global logistics, inventory application and replenishment.
