Tesco Launches Musical Sandwich
LONDON -- In a creative nod to the growing number of Britons who eat lunch at their desks, global retailer Tesco said it will roll out musical sandwiches next week featuring technology similar to that used in singing greetings cards.
When consumers open the top of the sandwich box, a tiny sound module is activated, playing a song. The debut version, a turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich with pork and cranberry stuffing, features a medley of Christmas tunes including "Jingle Bells," "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
A company spokesman told the Associated Press that the concept could be easily adapted for Easter, Valentine's Day, or Mother's Day. He also noted that the idea could be used to debut new tunes in the competitive pop music industry.
Flavor/song combinations under consideration include "Let It Brie," and "Fillings."
