Topco's Ups McDermott to Prez, Nutrition Quality Index Unit
Nancy McDermott has been named president of Overall Nutritional Quality Index LLC (ONQI), the newly formed joint venture to bring a nutritional rating system to market between Braintree, Mass.-based Topco Associates LLC and Griffin Hospital.
McDermott most recently served as s.v.p. of Topco's TopSource not-for-resale (NFR) program. "Nancy combines an entrepreneurial spirit and solid industry experience with a disciplined approach to business," said Steve Lauer, Topco's president/c.e.o.
In her new post, McDermott will lead the effort to bring the new nutritional rating system to consumers later this year. Developed by a team of health and nutrition experts under the direction of Dr. David Katz, director of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, the ONQI system will rate the nutritional value of food on a scale from 1 to 100.
"The ONQI system gives consumers the information they need to make healthy choices, one food at a time," said Pat Charmel, president/c.e.o., Griffin Hospital.
With more than 25 years of experience in the food industry, McDermott previously served as v.p./supply chain for Ahold's Stop & Shop division and s.v.p./NFR (not-for-resale) and s.v.p./corporate brands sourcing for Ahold USA. Prior to that, McDermott worked for Ocean Spray Cranberries and the public accounting firm Ernst & Young.
