Tops Markets, Taste of Buffalo Launch Third Annual Poster Art Contest
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- Ahold USA division Tops Markets, LLC, based here, and the board of directors of weekend food and entertainment festival Taste of Buffalo, which is presented by Tops, are inviting teens to enter the 2006 Taste of Buffalo Poster Art Contest. Entrants will submit original artwork based on this year's theme, "We Be Jammin' On Delaware," a reference to the festival's location on Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo. The contest is open to students in grades 9 to 12 who are currently enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school in Erie or Niagara counties.
According to Taste of Buffalo 2006 chairman Sandra Lamphear in a statement, "For three years now, our partnership with Tops Markets has helped spur some creative juices from our high schoolers." The second-largest food festival in the United States, Taste of Buffalo began in 1984 and now welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors yearly. The next Taste of Buffalo event is scheduled for July 8 and July 9. The festival is free of charge.
All submitted artwork must include an image of a fork and an image of a buffalo (the animal). The contest's Caribbean islands theme must also be illustrated. The deadline to receive entries is March 17. Complete rules and eligibility requirements are available at http://www.topsmarkets.com.
The grand prize winner's artwork will be used in the 2006 Taste of Buffalo official advertising, promotional, and publicity materials, which will be distributed throughout western New York. Both the grand prize winner and his or her school's art department will receive $500 awards from Tops Markets and Taste of Buffalo's board of directors. The second-prize winner will receive a $150 gift certificate for art supplies and framing, courtesy of Hyatt's-All Things Creative, and the third prize is an iPod Shuffle.
