Transparency & Disclosure: 2 Words for the Future

Kudos go out to Unilever for changing the HBA industry. Gone will be the word "fragrance" from its extensive line of beauty care products, as the company will now list detailed info on fragrance ingredients that are used in excess of 100 parts per million.

For decades, consumers have complained that many fragrances have caused allergies, rashes and other problems. And those calls to corporate 800 numbers have been for naught, as the customer service operators were typically in the dark about the exact ingredients used to make those fragrances.  

Unilever deserves to be put on a pedestal and have their effort rewarded by consumers.  No doubt their competitors will follow suit and pretty soon, the listings should become pervasive. Unilever’s goal is to have all of the ingredients listed on SmartLabel by the end of 2018, as well as on their own websites, with detailed information that will also include explanations of the ingredients.
