Tyson, Walmart Fight Hunger in Puerto Rico

Tyson Foods, Walmart and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) have joined efforts to donate approximately 30,400 pounds of chicken breast filet fritters, rib meat and tenders to be distributed to non-profit organizations throughout Puerto Rico. The donation is part of a three-year joint commitment of Tyson Foods and LULAC to fight hunger.

“LULAC believes that eradicating hunger and malnutrition is a moral responsibility,” said Margaret Moran, LULAC National president. “The LULAC partnership with Tyson Foods is especially significant because it assists our efforts to eradicate hunger by providing access to nutritious food in the communities that need them the most. Through LULAC programs, services and advocacy, we will continue to tackle important issues by making information and resources available to the community.”

Throughout the past 13 years, Tyson has donated more than 90 million pounds of protein in the U.S. “We realize that our fight to end hunger is a huge undertaking, both in the United States and worldwide,” said Nora Venegas, director of federal governmental relations for Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods. “We are truly committed to hunger relief and we are proud that this is Tyson Foods’ first food donation in Puerto Rico.”

With 900 councils around the U.S. and Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C.-based LULAC is the largest volunteer-based civil rights organization that empowers Hispanic Americans and builds strong Latino communities.
