Wakefern Donates Personal Hygiene Kits to Storm Victims
On behalf of its ShopRite and PriceRite stores, Wakefern Food Corp. will donate 1,000 personal hygiene kits to those affected by the recent severe weather in Alabama. Valued at nearly $20,000, the kits offer such personal care essentials as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes to displaced people in the region. Wakefern associate volunteers assembled the kits, which will be loaded onto a ShopRite trailer headed to the West Alabama Food Bank for distribution to survivors.
“The core of our business philosophy -- families serving families -- is reinforced at a time like this, when we proudly stretch out our hands to assist our fellow Americans in need,” said Joseph Colalillo, chairman and CEO for Keasbey, N.J.-based Wakefern, which serves as the merchandising and distribution arm of both ShopRite and PriceRite. “It is our hope that this donation helps in some small way to alleviate the suffering of those left in the wake of this disaster.
Wakefern Food Corp, the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States, comprises 47 members who today individually own and operate more than 230 supermarkets under the ShopRite banner in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
