Wal-Mart and Kroger to Speak at GMA Environmental Sustainability Summit
WASHINGTON -- Wal-Martís v.p. of sustainability and Krogerís group v.p. of corporate affairs are among the executives lined up to speak during the Grocery Manufacturers Associationís first Environmental Sustainability Summit, which will take place here Jan. 17-18, 2008.
GMA designed the summit to showcase the food, beverage, and consumer products industryís leadership in developing and implementing environmentally sustainable business practices. GMA said it aims to ìchampion successful company policies, programs, and practices that contribute to environmental sustainability, providing attendees with a toolbox that will help them develop and enhance sustainability programs.î
Matt Kistler, v.p. of sustainability at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., will participate in a panel discussion on Jan. 18 entitled ìAssessing Our Environmental Impact: Perspectives from Retail, Foodservice, and Manufacturing.î Other confirmed panel participants include Gene Kahn, v.p. of sustainable development at General Mills, Inc., and Kenneth Spitler, president and c.o.o. of Sysco Corp.
Lynn Marmer, group v.p. of corporate affairs at The Kroger Co., will speak about ìEngaging the Communityî in sustainability efforts in a panel on Jan. 17.
The event will feature keynote speeches from Peter Seligmann, co-founder, chairman of the board, and c.e.o. of Conservation International; Steve Johnson, administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Dan Esty, director of Yale Center for Environmental Law and co-author of ìGreen to Goldî; and Lester Lave, Higgins professor of economics and director of Green Design Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University.
Breakout sessions will explore three key areas of environmental sustainability: energy efficiency/climate change, water conservation, and packaging innovation.
