Wal-Mart Bows Supercenter Format with 3 Units in Atlanta
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart today brings its supercenter format within the Atlanta city limits for the first time, with a new unit at the District at Howell Mill.
It is also opening two more examples of the formidable format today in the surrounding communities of Buford and Stockbridge.

The chain, based here, said the trio of stores sports its latest in-store designs and features, including an expanded selection of organic food items, bakery, delicatessen, frozen foods and meat, dairy, and fresh produce. The bulked up food presentation is accompanied by wider aisles, new home trends displays, new in-store signage and concrete and hardwood laminate floors throughout.
The store represents another "urban design setting" for Wal-Mart in a crucial market for its plans for future growth. The store is off the street level, with the building housing a three-level parking deck nearby.
Wal-Mart said the urban store features a one-of-a-kind bakery and deli with an island of prepared foods for easy "on the go" dinners. It said it has also tailored the merchandise mix toward the local clientele with an expanded wine selection and a specialty cheese area, and a Subway restaurant.
As of September 2006, Wal-Mart was operating 106 supercenters, 13 discount stores, 21 Sam's Clubs, and nine DCs in Georgia.
