Wal-Mart Now Accepting Checks Via the Internet
BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores began accepting electronic checks from its online customers this week, making the company one of the first mass retailers to let customers make purchases over the Internet using their checking accounts.
On Tuesday, Certegy Inc. said it signed an agreement with Wal-Mart.com to provide full check warranty and electronic check processing. Wal-Mart said it is offering the option in response to requests from its customers, since Internet retail sales are rapidly growing. With the new online check acceptance option, the transaction is completely electronic, for both purchases and returns. Returns can be shipped through the mail back to Wal-Mart.com or returned to the nearest Wal-Mart store.
