Wegmans to Host ‘Talk & Taste’ Cheese Shop Events
Three Wegmans Food Markets stores will hold free "Talk & Taste" events in each location’s Cheese Shop this month, not only enabling customers to sample fine North American cheeses, but also to hear from the producers themselves about how the varieties were made. Among the items sampled will be Wegmans' own "1916" aged goat cheese, named for the year of the family-owned company's founding, which recently won an award at the American Cheese Society's 2015 competition.
"When the cheesemakers and producers visit, our employees will meet with them to deepen their own understanding and appreciation for what makes these products so special," said Cathy Gaffney, the Wegmans VP overseeing specialty cheese and the grocer's Cheese Caves. "But we know that many who shop with us love learning about these things too."
Representatives from Carr Valley Cheese, Vermont Creamery, Beecher's Handmade Cheese, BelGioioso and Summerfresh will participate in meet-and-greets with event attendees.
The "Talk & Taste" sessions will take place at Wegmans stores in Fairfax, Va., on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5-7 p.m.; Columbia, Md., on Friday, Aug. 21, from 5-7 p.m.; and Allentown, Pa., on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 1-3 p.m.
Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans operates 86 supermarkets in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
