Wegmans Replenishing Orders With Prescient
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets here has chosen West Chester, Pa.-based Prescient Applied Intelligence, Inc.'s Demand Planning and Inventory and Replenishment Planning modules to generate orders for about 800 vendors.
In 2004 the grocer implemented Prescient's on-demand replenishment program to generate orders for 200 of its vendors. As it expanded south from its hometown of Rochester, Wegmans opened a second distribution center to more effectively service its new locations, and with the second DC came additional vendors and products. Wegmans then opted to replace the 25-year-old customized mainframe application it had been using to run its first DC with technology better able to support its expansion plans.
"We had great results when we used Prescient for our first 200 vendors: forecast accuracy increased by over 100 percent, days of supply decreased by 25 percent, and service levels rose," said Wegmans merchandising systems manager Tom Adelsberger in a statement. "We have aggressive plans -- we want to add 600 vendors by mid-2007. We're confident that Prescient is the right solution to support us now, and in the future."
"The focus on accurate orders and timely replenishment will result in more product on the shelves and a better customer experience," added Prescient president and c.e.o. Jane Hoffer. "And because Prescient hosts the solution, Wegmans can focus on maximizing business results rather than managing the software."
Other clients of Prescient, a provider of supply chain and advanced commerce solutions for retailers and suppliers, include Ahold, AutoZone, Coors, Domino's Pizza, Rite Aid, Sara Lee, Schwan's, and Wyeth.
