Weis Precedes New Store Opening With Goody Bag Giveaways

In advance of unvieling a new 63,400-square-foot superstore it will open the last weekend of this month in the Easton, Pa., suburbs of Forks Township, Weis Markets is gearing up to distribute 4,000 reusable grocery bags containing free private brand products and coupons valued at $67 to households in the neighborhoods in close proximity to the soon-to-open store.

Representing an investment of nearly $220,000 for the Sunbury, Pa.-based regional retailer, the “Weis Brand Giveaway” will help build excitement among prospective customers of the new store, which will feature Weis Markets’ newest store design with expansive perishable departments, a center store offering with increased variety, an in-store café selling beer, a full-service pharmacy and a gas station.

As Weis Markets' second new store opening in less than a month, its new Forks Township, Pa., location will utilize advanced refrigeration and climate control technologies designed to lessen its impact on global warming by reducing the store’s refrigerant charge by 50 percent vs. conventional applications. In addition, the store will also feature a number of energy reducing technologies, such as solar/thermal rated windows and reflective roofs and skylights for natural lighting.

Later this summer, Weis Markets – which operates 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia -- will also open a third new replacement concept store in Bellefonte, Pa.
