Weis Readies to Reopen Three Former Genuardi’s
On the heels of closing on its deal to purchase of three former Genuardi’s supermarkets from Safeway, Weis Markets is in full gear getting the stores set and ready for their grand reopenings set to take place this Saturday, June 16.
The three stores, located in Philadelphia’s western suburbs in the communities of Conshohocken, Doylestown and East Norristown, will be staffed by 218 former Genuardi employees. The Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets also added 150 new positions, which will allow each store to double the number of cashiers it employs and increase front-end service.
In advance of these openings, each store’s pharmacy reopened on Monday, June 11, at 12 noon, to minimize prescription service disruption.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is marking its 100th year of operation in 2012. When it reopens its acquired Delaware Valley units, it will operate 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
