Weis Remodels 2 More Stores as Part $6.7 M Cap-Ex Purse
The fruits of a $3 million investment in two of Weis Markets’ southern tier stores in Binghamton, N.Y., has culminated in grand re-opening celebrations for the Sunbury, Pa.-chain over the weekend. The two remodeled stores, which are located on Hooper Rd. in Endwell and on Pennsylvania Ave., feature expanded and enhanced produce, bakery and meat departments, improved lighting and layouts and upgraded décor.
The two projects are part of a $6.7 million capital expenditures purse Weis Markets has made in seven of its southern tier stores over the past two years.
As part of the grand re-opening celebrations, the stores committed $7,500 in donations to local groups, which include: $5,000 to United Health System Foundation for breast cancer prevention programs; $1,500 to Stop DWI Broome County; $1,000 to Julyfest; and $1,000 to the Magic Paintbrush, a creative workshop program for special needs citizens and their families.
As part of its recently completed Paw for Pets program, the stores presented a total $8,015 in customer donations to the Broome County Humane Society and Animal Care Council. Overall, Weis Markets’ southern tier stores generated more than $16,000 in combined donations for five local animal rescue organizations.
Currently commemorating its 100th year of operation, Weis Markets operates 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
