WGA Accepting Woman of the Year Award Nominations
Women Grocers of America (WGA) is now accepting applications for its 2014 WGA Woman of the Year Award (WOTYA), which recognizes exemplary female leaders in the independent food industry. The winner will be revealed at the NGA Show, which will take place in Las Vegas in February 2014.
According to Arlington, Va.-based WGA, the award recipient will be “a visionary and strategic thinker, a standout representative of the industry, her company and her community.” The 2013 WOTY was Debbie Dory of Newport Avenue Market, a single-store operator in Bend, Ore.
Nominees can be from any sector of the independent food industry, must be a female professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the independent food sector and don’t have to be WGA members. They will be judged by the current WGA board of directors on a weighted scale, according to their legendary status (50 percent), visionary character (30 percent) and humanitarian endeavors (20 percent).
Applications are due no later than Dec. 15.
