Minneapolis-based C.H.Robinson developed its new product line, Fresh 'n Easy QuickSteam vegetable side dishes, with Salinas, Calif.-based River Ranch Fresh Foods, LLC, in response to consumers' demands for healthy, convenient fresh food. After rigorously testing 32 sauces, the companies settled on seven -- Alfredo, Asian Citrus, Blue Cheese, Creamy Tomato Basil, Garlic & Butter, Sharp Cheddar, and Southwestern -- all of them between 70 and 110 calories and free of trans fats. There are also four bagged items without sauce. All QuickSteam products employ microperf technology, which provides a 17-day shelf life, and a new steam valve cooking system that preserves the items' high nutrient levels with cooking times of three minutes or less.
