Whole Foods CEO John Mackey has co-written a cookbook highlighting plant-based recipes

Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO John Mackey’s new book, “The Whole Foods Cookbook: 120 Delicious and Healthy Plant-Centered Recipes” (Grand Central Life & Style) is now available for purchase in the grocer’s stores, on Amazon.com and at booksellers across the United States. As with Mackey’s earlier book, “The Whole Foods Diet,” the new work provides the recipes, knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to create healthy meals from wholesome plant-based ingredients.

“One of the healthiest lifestyle choices you can make is to cook your own food,” noted Mackey. “The recipes in this book are meant to educate and inspire readers to embrace the health benefits of a nutrient-rich, plant-centered lifestyle and to enjoy delicious and simple meals in the process.”

Presented in two parts, the cookbook features guidance from Mackey and co-authors Dr. Alona Pulde and Dr. Matthew Lederman, who both appeared in the documentary “Forks Over Knives,” regarding the diet’s health benefits and the rationale for many foundational kitchen techniques such as cooking methods that enhance flavor without the use of refined ingredients. The book offers short cuts for family meals, tips on entertaining for foodies, and easy kitchen hacks to develop sweet and savory flavors without animal fats.

The rest of the book consists of culinary advice and more than 120 recipes created by brothers Chad and Derek Sarno, authors of “The Wicked Healthy Cookbook.” Each recipe provides alternative protein options and step-by-step instructions for steaming, roasting and sautéing without oil.

“Our curated selection of carefully crafted recipes offers readers the guidance needed to seamlessly integrate plant-focused meals into their diets and prioritize eating whole, unprocessed foods,” said Wicked Healthy co-founder Chad Sarno. “In the midst of our busy lives, the last thing most of us need is an overly complicated diet. It’s all about balance, having fun in the kitchen, and making real food that’s delicious and healthy.”

To mark the book’s launch, “The Whole Foods Cookbook” will be a featured Prime member deal through Nov. 6 at a special price of $15.99, a savings of $4, with all sales proceeds going to the Whole Foods Market foundations.

Additionally, the following recipes from the book will be offered in the hot bars and salad bars at Whole Foods Market Stores across United States, rotating throughout November and December: The Vibrant Veggie Gado salad, Pesto Linguine with Lots of Greens, Roasted Eggplant with Cashew Cheese, Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Glazed Onions, Indian Chickpeas, Roasted Spiced Cauliflower, Saag and Tofu Paneer, and Kitchari with Warm Spices.

Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods operates more than 470 stores in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. Under its parent company, Seattle-based Amazon, the company is No. 8 on Progressive Grocer’s 2018 Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States.
