Whole Foods, Nature’s Fight Poverty With Muesli
When Whole Foods Market shoppers purchase either of two exclusive flavors of Nature’s Path organic, Non-GMO Project-verified Heritage Mueslis -- Raspberry Hazelnut and Wild Blueberry Almond -- the Richmond, British Columbia-based food company will contribute 2 percent of the retail price to the grocer’s Whole Planet Foundation. Further, each box profiles an entrepreneur who has improved her life through microcredit.
Through grants to microfinance partners, Whole Planet Foundation helps ease poverty in the areas around the world where Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods sources products. To date, the foundation has committed more than $34 million and given more than $22 million in 54 countries, including the United States
“Thanks to Nature’s Path for offering shoppers an opportunity to not only give back, but learn about our microfinance partners and how loans as small as $200 can help a poor entrepreneur create big change for her and her family,” said Philip Sansone, president and executive director of Whole Planet Foundation.
Among the featured microcredit clients and partners on the boxes are Thusitha, a client of BRAC, the largest development operation in the world, who used her microloan to develop her tailoring business; and Luisa, a client of Pro Mujer, a Whole Planet Foundation partner in Latin America, who used her microloans to produce artisan goods.
The exclusive Nature’s Path Heritage Muesli varieties will be available at Whole Foods Market for $4.69 per box while supplies last.
