Winn-Dixie Goes Downtown for Latest Store Renovation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In a news conference yesterday, regional grocer Winn-Dixie here revealed its plans to make renovations and expand its store in downtown Jacksonville. The chain claims to be the only grocery store serving the growing downtown residential population here.
"Our shoppers are already experiencing improvements in customer service and product selection," said Peter Lynch, Winn-Dixie's president, c.e.o., and chairman of the board. "Now they will see a new, updated store with even better product and service offerings."
The Market Street store, first opened in 1981, is one of 75 stores scheduled for renovation between now and next June, according to Lynch.
In addition to an updated design on the exterior, the store will gain 4,000 square feet, to make room for larger fresh produce, floral, seafood, and deli departments. The store will also receive upgrades in shelving, refrigeration, and frozen food cases, as well as flooring, lighting, and decor improvements.
Space is also being provided to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for officers to use while on patrol.
During the news conference, Lynch presented a $25,000 check to the I.M. Sulzbacher Center on behalf of the Winn-Dixie Foundation.
Winn-Dixie operates 520 stores.
