Winn-Dixie Stores Foundation Charity Classic Generates Record $1.3 Million

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The 6th annual Winn-Dixie Stores Foundation, Inc. Charity Classic golf tournament, presented by Wachovia, generated a record $1.3 million, Winn-Dixie said yesterday. The tournament, which is the only fundraiser for the nonprofit Winn-Dixie Stores Foundation, was held Nov. 2 on the Slammer & Squire and the King & The Bear courses at World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Fla.

The 288 participants included many of the top companies in the supermarket industry and representatives from Winn-Dixie.

At a post-tournament awards dinner Peter Lynch, president and c.e.o. of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., said that the tournament netted a record $1.3 million after expenses.

"I want to thank all of our business partners and their companies who share our commitment to making a difference in every community we serve," noted Lynch. "Because of our vendors' and business partners' participation, the Winn-Dixie Stores Foundation can continue funding educational, health, youth and anti-hunger programs throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana."

The Winn-Dixie Stores Foundation, created in 1944, makes grants to local nonprofit organizations focused on hunger, children and youth activities, education, and health initiatives. Recipients of grants from the foundation will be announced soon.
