MODESTO, Calif. - Regional independent Save Mart and S-Mart Foods' Pharmacies are joining the recent effort on the part of retailers to make healthcare more affordable by offering free Amoxicillin with a doctor's prescription for all patients during the months of October through March 2007--but while the effort is new for many retailers, it is not a new program for Save Mart.

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Dominick's Finer Foods is offering flu vaccines at all 98 stores in the Chicagoland area now through February 2007, or while supplies last, the chain said. Most stores will provide vaccines on a walk-in basis at in-store pharmacies, while others will conduct scheduled flu shot clinics.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - With more than 152,000 new prescriptions filled during the first four days of a 14-state, $4 generic prescription program, Wal-Mart said yesterday that it is adding 12 more states to the rollout.

Joining a trend started by Wal-Mart, and then Target, and Kmart, now major retailers Meijer, BJ's Wholesale Club, Giant Eagle, and Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. all said this week they are also introducing prescription drug programs that to some degree will allow customers to get needed medications for less money.
