    MODESTO, Calif. - Regional independent Save Mart and S-Mart Foods' Pharmacies are joining the recent effort on the part of retailers to make healthcare more affordable by offering free Amoxicillin with a doctor's prescription for all patients during the months of October through March 2007--but while the effort is new for many retailers, it is not a new program for Save Mart.

    NEW YORK - It's spreading like a virus. Joining a trend started by Wal-Mart, and then Target, and Kmart, now major retailers Meijer, BJ's Wholesale Club, Giant Eagle, and Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. all said this week they are also introducing prescription drug programs that to some degree will allow customers to get needed medications for less money.
