  • Food Lion's Bloom Pharmacies to Feature Automated Health Stations

    SALISBURY, N.C. -- Delhaize-owned Food Lion here yesterday completed installation of its fifth automated health station inside a Bloom pharmacy as an additional service to help promote the health of its shoppers.
  • NACDS, Pharmacists' Group Form Coalition

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- In what both organizations call a historic move, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) said they'd created the Coalition for Community Pharmacy Action (CCPA), marking the first time that all 55,000 community pharmacies in the United States -- chains and independents alike -- will be represented by a single group on legislative and regulatory issues of common interest.
  • Walgreen Names Jeffrey A. Rein C.E.O.

    DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. said yesterday that it had named company president Jeffrey A. Rein to the additional position of c.e.o., effective July 12, coinciding with the company's next board of directors meeting. Rein will retain his title as president, while current c.e.o. and chairman David W. Bernauer will remain as chairman. The executive moves are part of Walgreen's long-range leadership succession planning.

    DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. said yesterday that it has made the following promotions: Trent E. Taylor has to e.v.p. and c.i.o., from s.v.p. and c.i.o.; Gregory D. Wasson to Walgreen Co. e.v.p. and president of Walgreens Health Services (WHS), the company's managed care division, from a corporate s.v.p. and president of WHS; and Kermit R. Crawford to Walgreen Co. v.p. and e.v.p. of pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) services for WHS from v.p. of PBM services.

    Pittsford, NY-- Officials at St. John Fisher College here broke ground this week for a new pharmacy school made possible by a $5 million donation by Robert B. Wegman, the largest such gift in the school's history.
  • Bill Proposed to Fine Pharmacists Who Won't Fill Prescriptions

    DIX HILLS, N.Y. -- Pathmark found itself on the front lines this week in a controversy over pharmarcists refusing to fill prescriptions on moral grounds. At a press conference held outside a Pathmark supermarket here, federal legislators said there ought to be a law requiring pharmacists to either fill all prescriptions, or refer customers to a colleague.
