Supervalu, Inc. has sold its Payson Store Fixtures division to Boston-based DGS Retail Inc. for an undisclosed amount, according to Quazar Capital Corp., the Minneapolis-based investment banking firm that represented Payson on the deal.

Tops Markets, LLC said late yesterday that it would sell six recently acquired stores to Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper Supermarkets.

Making good on a pledge made by CEO Craig Herkert late last year to divest nonstrategic assets in select geographic markets, Supervalu has sold 16 Shaw’s supermarkets in Connecticut to two entrenched Northeast corridor retailers as it continues to seek buyers for two additional locations in the state.

Tops Friendly Markets said yesterday today that its bid to acquire a majority of bankrupt grocer Penn Traffic's assets, including its 79 grocery stores, has been approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Price Chopper has dropped its offer to purchase 22 P&C supermarkets owned by the bankrupt Penn Traffic Co., according to published reports.

Walmart said it will close 10 underperforming Sam’s Club stores later this month and cut 1,500 jobs to reduce costs.

Albertson’s, LLC, which according to published reports is closing eight underperforming Florida stores, has sold its Plant City, Fla., distribution center to Gordon Food Service (GFS). The 1-million-square-foot DC occupies a 158-acre site in Hillsborough County, off Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando, Fla.

Big Y Foods, Inc. has acquired the New Milford Pharmacy in New Milford, Conn., and will close its supermarket on 800 Boston Road in its hometown of Springfield, Mass., next month.
