MALVERN, Pa. -- Acme Markets based here has earned an award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Having made the move to jettison its standalone Deal$ stores earlier this week, Supervalu Inc. now has signaled its intent to cultivate Sunflower Market, its new discount organic format.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Let the divesting begin. Supervalu Inc. here said yesterday it is selling its standalone Deal$ stores to Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., for approximately $30.5 million in cash, along with a yet-to-be-determined amount of inventory.

BOISE, Idaho -- In honor of Black History Month, Albertson's, Inc. here and Coca-Cola are teaming up to make donations to African-American nonprofit organizations nationwide. This year, Albertsons and Coke have pledged to contribute $125,000 to organizations with ties to African-American communities.

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Carl Jablonski has been appointed the new president of Albertsons' Shaw's Supermarkets Division here, effective yesterday, according to a memo sent to employees by Albertsons chairman and c.e.o. Larry Johnston. In his new role Jablonski will continue to report directly to e.v.p. of marketing and food operations Paul Gannon.
