Weis Markets has added two new executives from outside the company to lead its foodservice/deli and pharmacy operations.

Following reports of a shortage of liquid Tamiflu, all of Publix’s 795 pharmacies are offering to compound drug into an oral suspension. Tamiflu, which is used to treat flu-like symptoms, is usually available in either capsule or liquid form. The latter is often prescribed to children, as well as to adults who have trouble swallowing capsules.

According to the recent J.D. Power and Associates 2009 National Pharmacy Study, in the area of customer satisfaction, Wegmans ranked highest in the supermarket segment, with a score of 865, followed by Winn-Dixie with 860 and Publix with 855. In the mass merchandiser segment, Target came in first in customer satisfaction for a third straight year, with a score of 831, while Costco (818) and Sam’s Club (813) were second and third.

Well-respected industry executive Jim Donald has joined Bellingham, Wash.-based Haggen, Inc. as its president and CEO, replacing Dale Henley, who earlier this year said he would retire. In bringing Donald aboard as its new chief executive, the 33-store grocery store company is tapping one of the supermarket industry’s most experienced and talented executives.

Publix continues to expand on its gas station convenience stores, known as “Pix,” which it first rolled out in 2001, according to Central Florida News 13.

Regional independent Publix Super Markets said yesterday it would complete the installation of its DVD-rental kiosks in most of its Florida-area stores by Nov. 1, and has installing the system in its other markets, including Atlanta; Birmingham, Ala.; Savannah, Ga.; Greenville, S.C.; and Charleston, S.C.

Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix Super Markets plans to open a hybrid-organic supermarket concept in Naples, Fla., according to Rffretailer.com.

Six people were arrested in Brevard County, Fla., on charges of running an operation that specialized in stealing razor blades and other small HBC items in Publix stores across Central Florida and selling the products on eBay and at area flea markets, according to published reports.
