CHICAGO - Wild Oats Markets, Inc., a national natural and organic foods retailer, and Peapod, Ahold USA's Internet grocer, are now offering more than 200 Wild Oats branded to Chicago-area shoppers on the Peapod online grocery site.

Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) for seafood is set to go into effect on Sept. 30 without any further rules published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to a spokeswoman for the McLean, Va.-based National Fisheries Institute. Following are some questions and answers that NFI issued in its member bulletin.

WASHINGTON - Despite hopes to the contrary, Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) for seafood will go into effect on Sept. 30 without any further rules published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to a spokeswoman for the McLean, Va.-based National Fisheries Institute.

McLEAN, Va. - The National Fisheries Institute's Fisheries Scholarship Fund has created a special memorial scholarship fund in the name of Rich Catanzaro, H-E-B's former director of seafood merchandising, procurement, and new product development, who was killed last March in a snowmobile accident in Breckinridge, Colo.

DAYVILLE, Conn. - Leading distributor United Natural Foods, Inc. yesterday said it has extended its current primary distribution agreement with Whole Foods Market, Inc. through Dec. 31, 2004.

BOULDER, Colo. - Wild Oats Markets, Inc., a national natural and organic foods retailer, today announced financial results for the first quarter ended March 27. The company generated net income of $2.4 million, or $0.08 per diluted share, on first-quarter sales of $263.8 million.

SAN ANTONIO - Rich Catanzaro, director of seafood merchandising, procurement and new product development at H.E. Butt Grocery Co., was killed last weekend after losing control of his snowmobile at a turn in a trail and striking a tree while vacationing with his family in Breckinridge, Colo.

BOULDER, Colo. - Wild Oats Markets, Inc. today released its preliminary third-quarter 2003 sales and earnings results. The national natural and organic foods retailer also announced that it has reached a decision with distributor Tree of Life, Inc. that mutual expectations under the two companies' primary distribution agreement were unlikely to be met and that Tree of Life would relinquish the primary distribution role.
