    Tom Robinson, VP and COO of Food Lion affiliate Harveys Supermarkets, has been named a national VP of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The appointment marks the third year Robinson has served in this position for the organization.

    Harveys Supermarkets has rolled out its “Hometown Educational Rewards,” which enables shoppers to link their Harveys Hometown Rewards Key to participating local schools. When customers use their cards, they can raise funds for the school of their choice to uby educational equipment. The program runs through March 31, 2010.

  • Newest Hannaford Store Goes Platinum

    As expected, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) last week granted Hannaford Supermarkets Platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its newest store, which opened Sunday in Augusta, Maine. Out of about 85,000 U.S. supermarkets, the Delhaize division is the first in the country to achieve such certification, the highest standard of the USGBC.
