PHOENIX -- Wal-Mart; Stop & Shop; Giant Food, LLC; and Giant Food Stores and Tops Markets were among the retailers to sign onto a new initiative from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) that will give individuals displaced by natural disasters or other emergencies faster, safer access to vital prescription medications.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. said yesterday it plans to contract with local hospitals and other organizations to open as many as 400 in-store health clinics over the next two to three years -- and if current market forces continue, up to 2,000 clinics could be in Wal-Mart stores over the next five to seven years.

The program's initial enrollment period began on Feb. 23, and has been extended through April 28, from the original cut-off date of March 31.

CINCINNATI - In the wake of a Georgia woman's claim that a pharmacist refused her request for "Plan B" emergency contraceptive at a Kroger pharmacy, The Kroger Co. here reaffirmed in a statement that it will fill requests for the medication regardless of whether individual pharmacists at its stores object to dispensing it.

GRAND RAPIDS - Meijer Inc. here added two new diagnostic devices to its in-store pharmacies in a bid to make it easier for customers to manage their health.

CHICAGO -- Jewel-Osco Pharmacy, a network of pharmacies providing patient care services in the Chicago metropolitan area, has entered into an agreement with Destiny Health to provide a wellness service, Vitality Check, to The Destiny Health Plan members.
